SOPWITH
CAMEL

A lightweight, scale-inspired R/C aircraft designed from scratch. Aerodynamic analysis, structural design, CAD, laser-cut balsa construction, and flight testing were developed as parts of one engineering problem.

SYSTEM OVERVIEW / 002

Designed to fly.
Built to learn.

The aircraft was approached as an integrated system: aerodynamic performance, structural efficiency, manufacturing practicality, and flight stability all informed the geometry and construction.

The design used XFLR5 for aerodynamic development and Onshape for aircraft modeling. The airframe was built from laser-cut balsa, with custom fiberglass/wood sandwich spars for the upper and lower wings, then covered and flown through multiple test flights.
